Quieting the Mind ~ Your Secret Self…

Remember that the worse case scenario probably won’t come to pass…

Racing thoughts—fast, repetitive thought patterns about a particular topic—are a common feature of anxiety and other mental-health disorders. But they can happen any time you are in an anxious or stressed state, even if you are not experiencing other symptoms.

Racing thoughts may be replays of past events which generated anxiety or sadness for you. They may also be worries about things that could happen in the future. They are strings of thoughts that are blown out of proportion, have a pattern, consume time, and often have no rational conclusion.

They can look like this:

“I always forget what I have to do. I’m so stupid. If I don’t remember everything, I’ll get fired. I don’t know what I’ll do if that happens. I should have taken that job I was offered six months ago. If I lose my job, I won’t have any money. I need to work longer hours to keep this job. That just makes me more depressed. I’m so miserable. What am I going to do?”

When thoughts like these flood your mind, they drain your energy, stop you from living in the present moment, and can create a loop in your brain that feels difficult to escape. They can also make it harder to concentrate and accomplish daily tasks, and impair your memory and sleep.

Having racing thoughts is often disturbing and frightening because it creates a sense of being out of control. But having racing thoughts does not mean you’re out of control or crazy. It does mean that you are anxious and that your stress level is higher than usual.

Here are some ways you can work to calm your mind and stop racing thoughts:

1. Use cognitive distancing.

Our mind usually worries about things it is convinced are true but, most of the time, are actually not true. You can balance your mind’s tendency to predict the worst outcome by coming up with positive alternative scenarios. For instance, your spouse seems distant and is sending out a lot of emails. You decide he must be having an affair. An alternative scenario: He is working extra hard on a project. Analyze what’s most likely to happen. Most of the time, the worst-case scenario your brain comes up with is not the most likely one.

2. Use a mantra.

A mantra is just a simple phrase or word that you repeat to calm your mind. Research has shown that repeating a mantra reduces activity in the part of your brain that is responsible for self-judgment and reflection. This is the part of the brain that spends so much time rehashing the past and worrying about the future. You can use any word, sound, or saying you want. You could try something like, “Om,” “Life is good,” or “Everything is OK.” Repeat your phrase over and over, focusing your thoughts only on your mantra. If your mind wanders, return to your mantra. You can practice this almost anytime, even going around the supermarket or on your commute home from work.

3. Focus on the present.

Returning your focus to the present will help you accept and let go of what you cannot control. It will also help you realize that you can’t change the past, and that the future hasn’t happened yet, so it’s a waste of time to keep thinking about them. (This doesn’t mean that you are unaware of what happened in the past or what is about to happen in the future.) Try taking a deep breath and asking yourself how you are feeling right now.

In the video below Teal Swan breaks down how to stop thinking or stop thought all together? Are you over thinking about negative things or about someone too much? Stopping thought relates to quieting the mind and focusing on a specific subject.

4. Write things down.

Putting your concerns on paper allows you to return to them later. You don’t have to dismiss them entirely, and you can feel comfortable knowing you will revisit the concern. Also, the act of writing engages your mind and reduces the power of racing thoughts. When thoughts are in your mind, they feel chaotic. Putting them on paper organizes them. Use a notebook or a designated computer document. Once you’ve taken a few minutes to organize your thoughts on paper or onscreen, your mind should be calmer. If you want, set aside a time limit for thinking about them before taking a break and coming back to them later.

5. Breathe.

This shifts the fight-or-flight response of your sympathetic nervous system to the relaxed response of the parasympathetic nervous system. Try counting to 3 as you breathe in and to 5 as you breathe out. Pay attention only to your breathing as you try to slow it down. Your mind will wander, but just bring it back to your breathing. (See more tips on breathing exercises here.)

It takes time to develop new habits. Whichever of these tools you use, it will take regular practice over a long period of time to see results. Unfortunately, many people expect the effects to be immediate and abandon the practice too soon. Instead, be consistent and patient.

“Today is tomorrow, and present is past.
Nothing exists and everything will last.
There is no beginning, there was no end.
No depth to fall, no height to ascend.
There is only this moment, this flicker of light
That illuminates nothing, but oh! So bright!
For we are the spark that flutters in space,
Consuming an eternity of a moment’s grace.
For today is tomorrow and present and past.
Nothing exists and everything will last.”

Understanding the Sacral Chakra ~ Swadhistana

“The Sacral Chakra encapsulates your sexuality, self esteem, creativity, pleasures and frustrations. It is also known as the Swadhistana or Second Chakra, and in Martial Arts, it is known as the “Hara”. The Swadhistana governs life lessons involving blaming and guilt, sex, power and control; this Chakra is the base for your sense of morality. The Second Chakra is the base of your creativity, manifesting, money and prosperity. Information kept in this Chakra involves your emotions and feelings, and feelings of duality. Your personal magnetism, your patterns of control, and your sociability also emanated from the Swadhistana. An imbalance in the Sacral Chakra may manifest as addiction, intimacy issues, and feeling blue. The Swadhistana color is orange. It is located below the belly button, about 2-3 fingers down. The feeling nature of the 2nd Chakra connects it to the Emotional layer of the aura. The shifting emotions flow through the Second chakra and drift like a soft cloud of rainbow colors within the second layer of the aura, shifting and changing with our emotional nature.” – Read more via http://balance.chakrahealingsounds.com/2nd-chakra/

Swadhistana or Second Chakra ~ in Martial Arts, it is known as the “Hara”

The main challenge for the Sacral Chakra is the conditioning of our society. We live in a society where feelings are not valued, where passion and emotional reactions are being frowned upon. We are being taught not to “lose control,” and in the process ….we get disconnected from our bodies, our feelings. As if this was not enough we also experience the wounds of our collective cultural struggles over many sexual issues of our society. On the one hand sexuality is magnified and glorified and on the other hand it is rejected. This results in either blocked or excessive second chakra issues. No wonder we have so many issues with this passion center, the well spring of feelings, enjoyment and sensuality.

Do you love your body? Do you enjoy feeling your body? When was the last time you walked barefoot on the grass and felt the sensation of ground underneath your feet?

Sacral Chakra is also the center of creativity. Passion is the fuel of creative energy. Everything you create, a poem, a drawing or a website originates from the energy of the 2nd chakra. It is also where your fertility originates. After all, conceiving a child is a creative process. A person with an open Swadhistana Chakra is passionate, present in his/her body, sensual, creative and connected to his feelings.

There is a profound teaching in what Jesus said in Luke 23:34 —  ”Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Truer words were never spoken. In forgiveness lies the stoppage of the wheel of action, also known as Karma.

Releasin Karmic Bonds ~ Understandin Forgiveness....

Karma is a basic principle of several Eastern religions that refers to a person’s acts and their ethical or physical consequences. Although there are various schools of thought pertaining to the exact nature of karma, in Sanskrit the word basically means “action” or “deed.”

The law of karma is an ancient principle that teaches that every action has and equal and opposite reaction. In other words, every thought… word or deed is a “cause” that generates an “effect” at some level that we must each play out in this life or the next. It teaches that everything we’ve ever thought said or did, even in a past life, can cause effects in our present, past and or future lives.

Truth and Love Go Hand in Hand………

By Carla B.

TRUE Truth and Love Evidently go hand in hand. The one is always present with the other…

Love & Light Protects .... Us All....

You have to really love someone to tell them the truth. Because you love them, you want them to have all the information available to help them… be the best they can be. You tell them the truth because you want them to be able to make choices and decisions. Utilizing their free will in the grand scheme of things. You want them to have everything they need to fully weigh their options. More important, when you really love someone, you want to tell them the truth as a sign of your respect for them. You not only love them, you respect that they are capable of handling the truth. When you truly love someone, you conduct yourself in ways that not only honor them, but honors you too! When you love yourself, you honor yourself. When you honor yourself, you can then honor others with truth!

This little light of mine, I'm gonna let it shine...

So truth and love are ever found together – TRUTH is therefore no dead thing. It invariably produces LOVE. Nor does it remain invisible. For love is ever found in its company and love always shows itself. Always…

Human Solidarity ~ Our only True Resource, our ONE Hope….

”When true myth rises into consciousness, that is always its message. You must change your life.” – Ursula K. Le guin

Human Solidarity

Abstract: The purpose of solidarity is to build our movement, and to embody our mutual care and concern for justice. Solidarity works best when we respect each others differing needs and life circumstances, understand that there are many ways of being in solidarity, and co-ordinate our responses. It does not work when we attempt to coerce, shame or inflict guilt upon each other, even subtly. The common life initially rests on the constitutive need for the human beings to be combined to form a community of similar which is also a community of destiny, out of which, as Aristotle wrote it, no man could exist humanly, nor simply to survive. When solidarity requires us to follow our group‘s social moral rules, we usually have non-instrumental reasons to do so as ways of standing in solidarity with others, and this is true even when our rules are not as good as they can be. Solidarity often grounds reasons to follow somewhat defective rules, it also grounds reasons to improve our social moral rules as well in order to bring them more in line with our group‘s ideals or make us more effective at promoting our shared ends, which has lots of limitations to refine oneself and grow. It’s each of our basic needs, duty and the purpose for the art of right living by understanding the natural state of each soul, with compassion, liberty and solidarity within to protect the dignity of our divine life and living as a means for keeping us united as oneness in nature to balance natural health.

The principle of solidarity has its roots in the scriptures. The book of Deuteronomy tells us: Since there will never cease to be some in need on the earth, I therefore command you, “Open your hand to the poor and needy neighbor in your land.” As has already been stated, solidarity is not just about the duties of the rich for the poor, ‘all are responsible for all‘. Both the Interdependence and the responsibility go both ways. It would be a mistake, of course, to focus solely on rich and poor here. ‘All for all’ means what it says. Here lies one aspect of the importance of the principle of solidarity. Intelligence is one of the most divine gift to all human whether he/she is poor or rich which itself a self-responsibility to protect the same by respecting interdependency. The fragmentation of societies and nations has not brought us isolation from the troubles of others. The rise of individualism has not brought us a better class of person. We have been encouraged to think of being ‘fiercely independent’ as being a virtue, and to feel that relying on other people is a weakness. The reality is that we have never been more dependent on more people than we are now in this age of globalization. The virtue of solidarity is quite demanding. Echoing the Golden Rule of the gospels it ‘translates into the willingness to give oneself for the good of one’s neighbor, beyond any individual or particular interest. Mohandas Gandhi recognized this aspect of Jesus’ teaching and applied it to his own situation. As far as he was concerned, Jesus was the first proponent of non-violent resistance. Its value can’t be seen from the cleverness of a theory though. He said, “It shall be proved by persons living it in their lives with utter disregard of the consequences to themselves”. That is true for the importance of solidarity as well, but we have had our example of how effective it is – like Gandhi – from the beginning, from Jesus, himself.

Solidarity is the way in which our diversity becomes our strength, we build our movements and we protect each others lives and rights. Let the give and take be mutual and equal. —  By:  Rashmi Chandran — read more>>> http://www.globaleducationmagazine.com/solidarity-survival-existence/

First and foremost, human solidarity is founded on mutual respect of each others uniqueness, and a deep sense of appreciation of our common humanity – that we are individuals with intrinsic self-worth, and that we are sisters and brothers within one human family inhabiting planet EARTH, our home and our heritage.
