Lourdes Duque Baron Mixes Assertiveness With Vulnerability On Her New Record

Lourdes D. Baron ~ "Lets Stay Together" - Label: Timeless Entertainment, Inc

EOTM ♪♪♬ Critic Score: 91 (out of 100)

Lourdes D. Baron knows there are two ways people think about her.  For some, she epitomizes all that has gone right…. in the world of a pop star, and for others there is a savory light in the eye of an entrepreneur, humanitarian, author, wife, mother. A woman partaking in her own ideas with the hopes of changing the world! These differing Lourdes Barons’ are all actually one in the same, and if you pay close attention you would notice they tend to show up in the same place at the same time. It’s that double whammy, a unique sometimes uncanny ubiquity many wish they could embody. Lourdes does this effortlessly.

Baron’s music career spans four albums to date, the most recent “Let’s Stay Together,” which made its debut, in the fall of 2016. On his new album, the singer-songwriter turns Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together,” into a formative funktastic 21st century soul session.

“I recorded vocals with my eyes closed. I wanted to envision Al Green NEXT to me … Coaching me,” Baron shared in a recent interview.

Sounding like nothing else out there, distinct even from Al Green, Barons take on Let’s Stay Together  is matchless, sexy without being over bearing and next level out while being street corner down. A superb swansong.

Lourdes delivers obstinately, with wit and indubious charm while belting words we remember, “Why people break up, to turn around and make up, I just can’t see, you NEVER do that to me — You better NOT do — staying around you is all I can see – All these eyes will ever see….” As she withdraws purring with ‘Lets Stay Together,’ – Okay…??

A heart achingly true ole school type hard core love song from way back. The artiste continues unabated, recalling a season of good and bad …in such a way….dare I say, Al Green and crooners of his countenance, could not possibly duplicate….unless – well, they happen to live a well balanced life. It’s in the tone, not necessarily the words which almost always have dual meaning. A well constructed arrangement of harmonious vibrations, confabulating it’s own type of amour. The acclaimed singer truly dug deep into her emotions and talents for this one, doing so with boldness and grace (with eyes closed, as she says) helping accent a reoccurring message of perseverance, love and forgiveness.

Barons voice is like a candle of hope  in a world that could use a little more light. The Diva and her musical team have an astounding knack for melody and retro-influenced instrumentation all under 4 minutes. “Let’s Stay Together” brings the jangle and hook to the forefront.

No filler – all killer here. NO excuses – get it now!

Available on Amazon vinyl and other digital platforms. Produced by Grammy nominee, Haguy Mizrahi of Gemini Musiq ~ Label: Timeless Entertainment, Inc.

@TheGRAMMYs 2015: Predictions, Nominees, Time, Date & Channel

Trying to predict the Grammys is a mug’s game: There are so many dang awards, the October-to-September eligibility period makes zero sense, and you’re never sure when the voters will just say, “Screw it” and hand an award to a bunch of old white guys whose band broke up 30 years ago.

Which is what makes it fun! In a year when most of the eventual Oscar winners have been locked in since December, it’s fun to watch an awards show where nobody has any idea what’s going to happen. This year, as in all years, there’s only one guarantee: The winners will make people mad. But which ones will make people maddest? Read our predictions below to see & sound off in comments!

Beyonce, Pharrell Williams and Sam Smith lead the pack of nominees this year with six nods each, including album of the year. Iggy Azalea, Beck, Eric Church, engineer Tom Coyne, Drake, Gordon Goodwin, Jay Z, Miranda Lambert, Sia, Usher and Jack White are not far behind with four nominations each.

Beyonce makes history this year by becoming the most-nominated female artist in Grammy history. U2 is now the most-nominated group in history — as the Irish band will be competing for best rock album for “Songs of Innocence.” Miley Cyrus, meanwhile, is in the running for her first Grammy — “Bangerz” is up for best pop vocal album. And the late Joan Rivers posthumously received a nod for best spoken word album for “Diary of a Diva.”

Buzz is building around some of the major categories for Music’s Biggest Night, including best new artist, which features some of the hottest top-notch talent to make it big this past year: Sam Smith, Iggy Azalea, Bastille, Haim and Brandy Clark.

But who’s it going to be?

Spotify compiled global data on the top streamed songs, albums and artists in each of the categories and came up with predictions based on number of streams and virality (shares). The team there expects Smith to take the category thanks to the success of his hit songs “Stay With Me” and “I’m Not the Only One.”

“He had an incredible breakthrough year last year with a fantastic album and a number of songs that Spotify listeners absolutely adored,” said Shanon Cook, Spotify’s trends expert.

Still, Cook says — don’t count out Bastille. “They had a massive song last year called ‘Pompeii.’ It started out as a big hit in the U.K. and it crossed over the Atlantic to the U.S.,” she said.

A couple of the same artists appear in the record of the year category: “Fancy,” Iggy Azalea featuring Charli XCX; “Chandelier,” Sia; “Stay With Me (Darkchild Version),” Sam Smith; “Shake It Off,” Taylor Swift; “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor.

All these songs are pretty great (and quite catchy we might add), but this category appears to come down to Sia, Swift and Smith. Spotify, for one, expects Sia to win for “Chandelier” based on its criteria.

But Julie Cunningham, SiriusXM Entertainment Weekly radio host, tells CBS News she thinks Smith could take the category.

The song of the year category — another big award (which goes to the songwriter) — features the following nominees: “All About That Bass,” Meghan Trainor and Kevin Kadish; “Chandelier,” Sia and Jesse Shatkin; “Shake It Off,” Taylor Swift, Max Martin and Shellback; “Stay With Me (Darkchild Version),” Sam Smith, James Napier and William Phillips; “Take Me to Church,” Hozier.

Both Smith and Sia have a strong chance of winning song of the year. But it’s really anyone’s guess at this point in the game.

“x” – Ed Sheeran”Beyonce” – Beyonce”Morning Phase” – Beck”In the Lonely Hour” – Sam Smith”Girl” – Pharrell Williams

And finally, there’s a range of acts competing for the night’s most coveted award: album of the year.

Beck is up for “Morning Phase,” Beyonce is in the running for her self-titled album, Ed Sheeran is nominated for “x,” and Smith will compete with his “In the Lonely Hour” set.

Some signs are pointing to Beyonce for the big win, but Spotify predicts Sheeran will take home the big prize.

“His album ‘Multiply’ was the biggest album we had last year. It got over more than 400 million streams. It was just a gorgeous album,” said Cook.

Smith is also a potential winner for this category, which means there’s a chance the British singer could see a few wins.

“You would think this would be Taylor Swift’s year. She’s rising so high right now with ’1989′ but that’s actually not the case,” said Cunningham, who noted that Swift’s “1989″ album wasn’t released in time to be considered for the nominations – thought the single “Shake It Off” was.

Swift will, though, take a turn as a presenter, alongside many other stars, including Dierks Bentley, James Corden, Jamie Foxx, Barry Gibb, Dave Grohl, Jennifer Hudson, Enrique Iglesias, Nick Jonas, Anna Kendrick, Shia LaBeouf, Katharine McPhee, Gwyneth Paltrow, Pentatonix, Smokey Robinson, Nile Rodgers, Gina Rodriguez, Taylor Swift, Meghan Trainor, Keith Urban, The Weeknd and Stevie Wonder.

The ceremony will feature a host of performances and plenty of collaborations, too. Brandy Clark, AC/DC, Tony Bennett, Herbie Hancock, Hozier, ELO, Jessie J, Tom Jones, Lady Gaga, Miranda Lambert, Common, John Legend, Ariana Grande and Beck are all on the bill — and there will likely be a few surprises.

Madonna is reportedly going to kick off the evening with a few of her new songs.

And Sia is another performer to watch.

“She has a tendency to perform with her back to the audience or her face obscured…So I’m really excited to see how she executes this performance,” said Cook. “Are we going to actually see her?”

Super Bowl halftime performer Katy Perry will also take the stage. One question: How will she top those dancing sharks?

LL Cool J will keep the show moving as he’s hosting the ceremony once again, marking his fourth consecutive year as emcee.

“I think it’s admirable of them to have an African-American hosting the biggest music show in the world,” LL Cool J told CBS News.

So, as you see — some of the hottest stars in music will be honored at the 57th annual Grammy Awards. The show kicks off Sunday, February 9th at 8 p.m. ET –and airs live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on CBS.

Lourdes Duque Baron’s “Feeling Good At Any Age” Red Carpet Release Review – #NewMusic #Grammys

67 year old Filipino crooner, Lourdes Duque Baron, under the production of multi-platinum and Billboard Award winning music producer, Andrew Lane, released her debut CD called “Feeling Good At Any Age” at a red carpet event attended by music’s elite including Ron Ellington Shy (The Drifters) and Brittany Glodean (granddaughter of the legendary Barry White).

Glendale, Calif. (PRWEB) July 16, 2014

At the age of 67, Filipino crooner, Lourdes Duque Baron, under the production of multi-platinum and Billboard Award winning music producer, Andrew Lane, released her debut CD called “Feeling Good At Any Age” at a red carpet event attended by music’s elite. The event was held at a mansion in Glendale on Saturday, July 12, 2014 and was live streamed by Aaron Sanchez, Live with Aaron and Kelly, KCAA NBC News Radio. Baron performed a few of her songs from the CD. Also performing was cellist Matthew John. Rock and Roll Hall of Famer, Ron Ellington Shy (The Drifters) surprised the crowd with an impromptu performance with Baron and Lane accompanying on keyboards.

Baron chose the songs on the CD to correspond to chapters in her life and following the story in her new book “I Called Myself Cassandra.” Baron’s smoky and sultry arrangements parallel her struggles during a dark period when she was estranged from her husband and chronicled in her book – detailing the wrong turns and heartaches that have allowed her to recognize the gifts in her life and the message of a new sunrise. The songs in her debut album echo these same experiences. “I wanted to make the songs of this album, including ‘Feeling Good,’ like they’re chapters in a book, to try to really capture what I’m thinking about in that season of life,” she explains. “This record, to me, is probably one of the most interesting subject-wise. It’s a bit retrospective and honors musicians and classics of the past.”

With the official release of the Filipino-singer’s album, others will discover what Lane calls “an amalgam of sound that is genuinely fresh to the ears.” Baron’s singular ability to blend tradition with contemporary color comes to the fore on this set of beguiling cover songs, which simultaneously capture the vintage, sepia-toned feel of her experiences with smoky and sultry sophistication of smooth jazz.

Two songs from the CD, “Me and Mr Jones” and “(Just Like) Starting Over” were recorded with AKNU, the group who enraptured Simon Cowell on the X-Factor in 2013. Music producer and songwriter, Sam Salter performed background vocals for several of the tracks. Salter has also written for multi-platinum music groups and artists such as Omarion, Tabu from the Black Eyed Peas, and Destiny’s Child. Fellow producer, Marquis Bell, also performed background vocals.

Baron’s smooth voice evokes a sense of nostalgia in “Cry Me A River,” “Starting Over,” “Me and Mr. Jones,” and “Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow.” Her voice is reminiscent of 40s or 50s jazz and blues singers performing in smoky venues into a vintage microphone. The CD is available on MTV and iTunes and a music video for “Me and Mr. Jones” is available on Vevo. Listen to all of the songs on Lourdes Duque Baron’s MTV page here.

Also attending the event was the granddaughter of the legendary Barry White, Brittany Glodean. Baron’s CD inspired Glodean, who is launching her own singing career this year. Glodean explained, “It is such an honor to be a part of an event where the love of music is so passionate! From the live band to Lou’s voice, it was an amazing experience! I am so blessed to be able to share the day with so many other artists.”

Many young artists attended the event and also commented on how inspired they were by Baron beginning a singing career at 67 years old. Cellist Matthew John shared, “Her talent, her awesome music videos, the books [she] wrote, and how [she] is an inspiration for all of us to pursue our dreams at any age.” His message to Baron, “Thank you for sharing your beautiful life!”

Also in attendance was spoken word music artist Angel Berry, twin singers Bianca and Chiara D’Ambrosio, pop singer, Anthuhny and Janine Tugonon, Miss Philippines 2012. Directors of Baron’s music video for “Me and Mr Jones,” Bayou Bennett and Daniel Lir (Dolce Films) filmed the event as part of a documentary they are producing on Baron’s life for network television.

A video of Pop star Justin Bieber has surfaced online and is creating a hefty buzz however, it’s not because of his singing skills. The video obtained by The Sun depicts the ‘Don’t Let Me Go’ singer making a racist joke… asking his friends,  “Why are black people afraid of chainsaws?” He then says, “Run … nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger, nigger.”

According to gossip site, Bieber’s camp knew about the existence of the footage and was willing to pay to keep it from surfacing. His team also went on record to say the singer was much younger (15 yrs old) and basically, “it was all in good fun.” Notably, in the clip you can hear a friend, say “don’t say it,” right before he goes into the racist joke. (he probably should have listened, ijs)

As you may remember Bieber has been reeling with major bad press the past years or so, from fights, drugs, girls, drag racing and more. There is also a petition floating to have the Canadian born singer to be deported.

“My beloved beliebers I’m officially retiring,” he wrote.

But before Bieber fans could really take it all in, he then tweeted that he would “never leave” his fans. So we are not sure what he really means…especially in the wake of him joking about retiring on L.A. radio’s Power 106 on last Tuesday.  Yep, if you missed it the 19 year old singer said that he’d be quitting music after his next album, “Journals,” which dropped on Dec. 23rd.

Snippets of the interview were released virally of the singer saying:

“After the new album, I’m actually, I’m retiring man, I’m retiring,” he said on “Big Boy’s Neighborhood.”

Soon after the full version of the interview surfaced that had Bieber elaborating on his comments.

“I’m just gonna take some time. I think I’m probably going to quit music,” he added. “… No, no, I’m just quitting music. I’m quitting everything. I’m quitting. I’m gonna go golf.

Then he added: “No, I’m just messing around.”

So, I guess we will have to just hurry up and wait..to see what happens.
