Enriching the lives of Former Foster Youth

(Tarzana, CA-May 3. 2013)-It is anticipated to be an awe-inspiring night with the community uniting to build a village. WE LIFT LA (Living in Foster Transition) will be hosting the “Building Our Village” Campaign Launch and Mixer on Friday, May 10, 2013 at St. Paul’s Methodist Church, Lower Hall, located at 5619 Lindley Ave, Tarzana, CA from 7:00 PM-9:00 PM.

Each and every distinguished guest including community leaders, local businesses, city council representatives and the youth who are being served by WE LIFT LA will be in attendance to join together for an amazing cause.

Philanthropist, Young Leader, Former Foster Youth and WE LIFT LA spokesperson Suahmirs Rivera will give a remarkable presentation emphasizing the state of former foster youth in California in addition to the urgency of building the village. Suahmirs recently received “The Immigrant Achievement Award” presented to him personally by General Colin L. Powell in Washington DC for being a powerful agent of change.

WE LIFT LA will be honoring staff and students of California State University Northridge for their diligent volunteerism.

WE LIFT LA is in the process of building a small community in the heart of Northridge, CA comprising of housing, community center and a work site. The goal is to build a safe space for the former foster youth of the community and empowering them with the tools as well as the resources to become sustainable adult leaders.

Joyce Harmon, Founder and CEO of WE LIFT LA affirms by saying “This community will be a village of love, empowerment, growth and leadership. It will take all of us to make it happen, one village at a time. These are our youth.“

About WE LIFT LA

WE LIFT LA works with youth and young adults who are transitioning out of the foster care system. Our programs are designed to encourage individual gifts and talents as well as to provide the basic foundational skills necessary to survive in today’s world. Many who seek our services have been rejected repeatedly by society and have no contact with supportive or reliable family or friends. Our role is to be that source of reliable support and housing and our sole focus is the cultivation of each youth’s ability to become self-sufficient, thriving, and contributing members of our communities.
